Infants

Here in the Infant Department we have three classes that are year group specific.  Each class has one teacher and a classroom assistant that enables one to one work, small group work and whole class work.

All staff members liaise closely through weekly departmental meetings and informal discussions. There is a staggered entry into the Reception class which is preceded by several trial sessions.  In this way the children enjoy a smooth transfer into main school and this is continued with managed transition between year groups and across the key stages.

We enjoy shared resources as well as a joint quiet area, outdoor and role-play areas and encourage parents to come in and help in the classroom.  Our enhanced curriculum is complemented by a wide range of extra curricular activities such as gym club, speech and instrumental lessons, and we use regular trips to enhance the children’s learning.

The children join together for departmental assemblies, singing, Sports Days and seasonal celebrations, and there are many opportunities for partnership with other classes for reading, spelling and PE.

Regular individual internal assessments are made so that we can best progress our children and each term we hold parents' evenings and provide an annual written report.  In these ways we seek to keep parents fully informed of the children’s progress but we are also always available to speak to parents at the end of the school day or through the contact book.
