Infants

Here in the infant department we have three classes that are year group specific.  Each class has one teacher and a classroom assistant enabling one to one and small group work.  We have a close staff liaison through weekly departmental meetings and also informal discussions. There is a staggered entry into the Reception class which is preceded by several trial sessions to allow for an easier changeover.  We have shared resources as well as a joint quiet area, outdoor and role-play areas.  There is managed transition between year groups and across the key stages.  We like to encourage parent helpers to come in and work alongside the teacher and share their skills.

We offer an enhanced curriculum plus the infant children also have access to extra curricular activities such as gym club, speech and instrumental lessons.  There are regular trips as individual classes, as a department and as a whole school.  We join together for departmental assemblies, singing, Sport's Days and seasonal celebrations.  There are many opportunities for partnership with other classes for reading, spelling and PE. We carry out regular individual internal assessments so that we can best progress our children.  As a school we have termly parents' evenings along with an annual written report.  We are always available to speak to our parents though either at the end of the day or through the contact book.
