The daily routine for piglets allows for a degree of flexibility as your baby’s routine needs to be able to suit their daily feelings. We encourage your child to develop their communication, social and physical skills through activities that are based on learning through play.
Roos are a group of mobile babies. Some are crawling and coasting well and they love to explore and have new experiences. Your child will have a more structured day, enjoying doing messy play with sand and water and starting to learn to use different tools and materials to do art activities. They will be beginning to learn to feed themselves at mealtimes, have a nap after lunch and love to play outside.
Your child will be walking or almost walking when in Poohs and so learning extends to the outside as well as indoor environment; the range of activities is designed to continue to stimulate and extend your child’s development. In addition they will be learning to become more independent at meal times and enjoy feeding themselves.
Social skills continue to develop in Tiggers where your child will be learning to interact with children in small groups. These groups change regularly so that there are different children to socialise with. Artwork, story time, singing and outdoor play continue and the day may include musical instruments, flash cards, exploring smells, textures and materials.
In Kangas the day will contain a number of learning through play activities. Morning circle time introduces your child to primary colours, numbers, shapes and signs; this is also the time when we involve them in singing and story time. The routine in Kangas includes a time when your child can have fun getting messy with sand and water, play dough or gloop and there is an opportunity to do art and cooking as well. Cooking is especially popular when they are able to eat what they have made!
We introduce your child to more new experiences in Owls. We teach MAKATON signs, which aid communication. Talking doesn’t just involve speaking; it includes hand movements or gestures, facial expression, eye contact and body language (posture and movement). All this is communication.
The Owl's room particularly works towards helping the children to become a little more independent - ready for their transfer into Foundation Stage 1 in main school. This is a big jump with the introduction of uniforms, using the bigger playground and being with older children. Consequently, the staff aims to make this change as smooth as possible and constantly liaise with the Foundation Class staff.
When parents and staff believe that a child is ready to move on to King’s Foundation Stage One (FS1) and there is space available, we will arrange for you to have an opportunity to see the main school and to meet the class teacher. We will also arrange for two settling sessions in FS1 and liaise with you about all aspects of the move. It is a big step and a positive one and we do all that we can to make smooth the transition.
