Year 3 Victorian day
On Tuesday 9th February Year 3 left behind 2010 and went back in time to the Victorian period. For the occasion the class dressed up as Victorian children and took part in Victorian lessons. They used slates to write on and sat in rows. The children learned how to write like a Victorian child would have and learned sayings like 'Silence is Golden' and 'Neglect no opportunity for doing good'.

The second lesson was reading, where the children all had to read together. After play the children learned about Noah's Ark and had to answer questions about what they had heard.

The final lesson of the day was arithmatic. The children learned all about Victorain money (£, s and d) and how to add it up. for example 9d + 8d = 1s 5d. They finished off the lesson by reciting the 7x table. I think we need to work on this a bit more in the class. |
During the afternoon the children all had the opportunity to look at differnt Victorian artefacts such as a chamber pot, bed warmer, glove stretcher, carpet beater, washboard and milk churn. The children particulalry enjoyed learning about the tooth drawer, used by a blacksmith for pulling out people's teeth. I wonder why that appealed so much?
