Your Questions Answered

Can I visit King’s Nursery before I decide if it’s the right place for my child?

Yes!  We encourage you to visit, so that you can be confident that King’s Nursery is right for your children.  We will be delighted to arrange for you to come and see us to meet the staff and to ask questions.  To arrange a visit, please call our Registrar who will be happy to make an appointment for you to come to nursery; 01752 753730

How many adults are there looking after the children in each room?

All our nursery rooms are staffed in line with the ratios of staff to children prescribed by OFSTED.  This is one adult to three children for the under 2s; one adult to four children for the under 3s.

What about security and access?

We have CCTV across the site and carefully control and monitor access to the nursery.  The welfare and safety of every child at King’s School and Nursery is of the utmost importance to us.

What is a session and how many can I register my child for?

A session is either a morning or an afternoon; a full day counts as two sessions.  We would expect you to register your child for a minimum of 2 sessions a week; the maximum is 5 full days per week.  We endeavour to accommodate your first choice of days and sessions, although as you will appreciate this is not always possible.

Are there settling in sessions, so both parent and child can get used to King’s Nursery?

Yes.  After your have returned your ‘Acceptance of a Place’ form, deposit and other documents, we will arrange for two settling in sessions.  The first settling in session lasts for an hour and is for both parent and child; the second settling in session lasts for approximately an hour and a half and is only for your child.  More settling sessions may be booked if required.

My child cannot eat certain food; will this be a problem?

No.  We understand that some foods may not be suitable for your child for medical or religious reasons and we are able to cater for this.

What do we need to bring with us each day?

We ask you to bring a day bag containing:

  • A change of clothes (more than one if your child is potty training)
  • Bottles or a juice cup (depending on age group)
  • A comforter (eg a cloth, dummy or favourite toy)
  • Calpol
  • Nappies and cream – if your child is not yet potty trained.  You may wish to leave a big pack of nappies in nursery and we will inform you when this is running out.
  • Shoes – for Poohs, Tiggers, Kangas and Owls

How will we know what has been happening during the day?

Your child will have a daily record sheet, which we send home every day.  We also complete a Learning Journey (a progress journal) for them so that you can follow their development.

Will you help with potty training?

Yes, when you feel that your child is ready.  We have children sized toilets and in Kangas and Owls we also have potties.  At this time please bring plenty of spare clothes as accidents do happen!

Does my child have to have a sleep during the day?

This will depend on the age of your child.  Babies and toddlers benefit from sleeping, as it restores their energy.  Once in Owls, a sleep is not always necessary and we are happy to offer an activity as an alternative should you wish.

How do you prepare children to move on from nursery at the end of Owls?

When parents and staff believe that a child is ready to move on to King’s Foundation Stage One (FS1), we will arrange for you to have a tour of the main school and to meet the class teacher.  We will also arrange for two settling sessions in FS1 and liaise with you about all aspects of the move.  It is a big step and a positive one and we do all that we can to make smooth the transition.

Do you accept employer’s nursery vouchers?

Yes we do.

Can we use the Early Years Grant toward nursery fees?

No.  Your child isn’t eligible for these until the term following their 3rd birthday, which would be after they have left Owls.  We do accept them in the main school, at the appropriate time.
